The headquarters of the Strong Egypt Party in the Warak district of Giza came under attack after Friday prayers by unknown attackers, said a local party official.

“[The attackers] tried to [burn down our building] too, but we were able to control the fire,” Abdallah Wagih, head of Strong Egypt in Giza told the Daily News Egypt. “Thankfully, there were no injuries or lives lost, and the losses in general were very little. However the attackers left [graffiti insults] all over the walls,” he added.

When asked about the potential identity of the perpetrators, Wagih said, “We still don’t know who did or why.” At the time of writing, Wagih was at the local police station cooperating with investigations.

The Strong Egypt Party had previously announced in an official statement its support for the 30 June protests organised by the Tamarod movement calling for early presidential elections.

The party was founded by Abdel Moneim Aboul Fottouh, a former member of the Muslim Brotherhood and candidate in last year’s presidential elections.
