Osama Kamel, Governor of Cairo Governorate, said that an international auction will soon be held to sell the rights to own and operate 15 marina boats throughout the governorate, as part of a new plan to develop its river transport system and lighten the traffic load on Cairo’s streets.

He stated that 22 million trips were made per day throughout the governorate using various forms of transportation.

Kamel praised the efforts of maritime contractor cleaning service companies operating throughout the city, particularly that of Urba 2000, whose work is limited mostly to the south of Cairo. He added that government authorities are seeking to restructure their contracts with such companies, pointing out that that no such contract would last longer than three years, and that contracts would be nullified if the quality of service were ever to deteriorate or if contract terms were violated.
