An arts and music performance by children trained by Tawasol for Developing Establ Antar will be held at El-Sawy Cultural Wheel this evening.

Tawasol for Developing Establ Antar is an nongovernmental organization (NGO) which works with children who have dropped out of school. The NGO says it provides around 140 primary school children with a chance to continue education and teaches them sports, arts, music, and vocational skills like embroidery and carpentry.

The NGO also provides them with balanced meals and weekly allowances. These children go to the NGO’s school which the NGO says has been registered with the Ministry of Education. In addition, the NGO works on combating illiteracy in Establ Antar, a slum near Maadi.

During the concert, the children will put on art and musical performances, showcasing the skills they have learned with the organisation. The children will also be showcasing the handicrafts they make.

The NGO has been working in the area for over five years but this will be the first concert performed by its school children.

Egyptian actor and rights activist, Khaled Abol Naga is supporting the concert and will be hosting the evening. His personal twitter account carries tweets inviting people to support the “amazing students” by attending the performance.

Establ Antar, also known as Ezbet Khairalla, has a population of 650,000 and is one of the largest unplanned communities in Egypt, according to Peace and Plenty NGO.

The entrance price is EGP 50, and while not the cheapest, knowing that it will go towards helping these children develop life skills makes it a sound investment.
