An improvised explosive device (IED) went off in an apartment in the Nasr City neighbourhood, injuring two.

The IED exploded in the apartment, rented by three Al-Azhar University students, Tuesday in the east Cairo neighbourhood. Two of the students were injured in the incident, and were transported to hospital, while police detained the third pending investigations, a Ministry of Interior statement read.

Al-Azhar students have been staging continuous anti-government protests since the removal of the Muslim Brotherhood government in July 2013. Hundreds of the university’s students have been imprisoned, referred to military courts, and dismissed from the university over protesting.
