Egypt’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat has received UAE Ambassador to Cairo Hamad Al Zaabi to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support investment in the electricity and renewable energy sectors.

During the meeting, Esmat praised the longstanding ties between Egypt and the UAE and the close relationship between the two countries and their peoples, which he said have consistently been reflected in strong relations and mutual support, providing a model of constructive cooperation among Arab countries.

He also highlighted the role of UAE companies working with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and its affiliated companies and authorities, particularly in renewable energy and the diversification of energy sources.

Esmat said Egypt has extensive cooperation and successful partnerships with UAE companies as part of the National Energy Strategy and the state’s drive towards the energy transition, greater reliance on renewable energy and the expansion of battery energy storage systems.

He outlined measures taken to support and encourage private-sector participation in solar and wind energy projects and battery storage, as well as projects to develop and modernise the national electricity grid and increase its capacity to accommodate new generation capacity.

Esmat said UAE companies are key partners in a number of electricity sector projects, particularly renewable energy projects. He added that the private sector is a major partner in implementing the electricity sector’s strategy and that the government is supporting and encouraging private investment to play its intended role in the national economy.

He noted that the private sector is leading solar and wind energy projects in Egypt.

For his part, the UAE ambassador praised Egyptian-Emirati relations, describing them as a model for Arab cooperation. He said the two countries share deep historical and cultural ties as well as broad common interests, reflected in partnerships across various fields, including investment and trade.
