Egypt is discussing plans with Italy’s San Donato healthcare group to develop and operate the New Heliopolis Hospital as part of its efforts to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare facilities, the Ministry of Health said.
Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Verdiana Morando, Director of Continuing Education at the San Donato Group, at the ministry’s headquarters in New Alamein to review progress on the proposed project.
The New Heliopolis Hospital is affiliated with Egypt’s General Authority for Health Insurance.
Abdel Ghaffar said the government is working to upgrade healthcare facilities and enhance their operational efficiency to maximise the use of existing infrastructure and resources.
He added that the ministry is keen to benefit from international expertise and adopt proven models for the development, management and operation of healthcare facilities, with the aim of improving the quality of medical services provided to patients.
Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the meeting reviewed the hospital’s current condition and capabilities and discussed opportunities to enhance its infrastructure and operational performance.
The two sides also explored ways to expand the hospital’s specialised medical services and examined operating models aimed at making more efficient use of its facilities and resources.
The ministry said both sides agreed to continue coordination and complete the studies and proposals needed to identify the most appropriate model for developing and operating the hospital.
The project forms part of Egypt’s broader efforts to modernise healthcare facilities and improve the quality, efficiency and sustainability of medical services, the ministry added.
