Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the necessity of a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories and the complete implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 during a telephone call with his Lebanese counterpart Youssef Raji on Monday.
Discussing the latest round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel hosted in Rome this month, Abdelatty emphasised the importance of continuing the negotiation process to achieve concrete results that ensure respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated.
Abdelatty affirmed the need for Israel to cease all military attacks on Lebanon and withdraw completely to prevent renewed escalation in the region. He also reiterated Egypt’s support for the Lebanese government and its efforts to extend its authority over all its territories, specifically backing the Lebanese army in maintaining national security and stability.
In response, Raji expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continuous support for the Lebanese state and its institutions, affirming his country’s commitment to ongoing coordination and consultation with Cairo.
Separately on Monday, Abdelatty discussed regional security arrangements and efforts to de-escalate escalating tensions during a telephone call with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis.
During the call, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s intensive communications and efforts aimed at calming the situation, confirming Cairo’s support for settling the current crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means to maintain regional stability.
The two ministers also praised the momentum in Egyptian-Greek relations and their strategic partnership, expressing a shared desire to build on recent high-level communications to enhance political and economic cooperation.
