Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) announced it is closely monitoring foreign media coverage regarding the incident at Damietta Port, aiming to ensure the dissemination of accurate information.
The SIS emphasized its ongoing commitment to communicating with foreign correspondents and international media outlets to provide them with precise and documented updates. The agency stated that these updates are based on official data from competent authorities, primarily the Egyptian government’s statements concerning the circumstances of the incident and ongoing investigations.
The agency stressed the importance of relying on authorized official sources for media coverage. This reliance, the SIS noted, contributes to presenting an accurate picture of the situation, especially given the international interest in following the incident’s developments.
Noting that some foreign media outlets had published incorrect news regarding the incident, the SIS reaffirmed that investigations are still underway to determine the full circumstances and identify the responsible party.
The SIS called upon all media outlets, news agencies, and foreign correspondents in Egypt and abroad to respect professional standards, verify the accuracy of the news they publish, and rely on Egyptian official sources when reporting on Egyptian affairs and the Damietta Port incident.
This statement comes after a fire broke out on July 29 on two vessels at Damietta Port. The Egyptian government confirmed the incident was caused by a drone. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly detailed the emergency response, highlighting that the fire involved a regasification ship and an adjacent storage ship. The regasification ship sustained damage, while the storage ship remained unharmed. The fire was controlled after a complex 12-to-14-hour operation, and energy supplies were unaffected.
