Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi warned on Saturday that Iranian attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) represent a “serious threat” to regional security and could trigger “regional chaos” that harms the stability and assets of the region’s people.
In a telephone call to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with the UAE and other brotherly nations targeted by the attacks. The Egyptian president expressed his country’s categorical rejection of any violation of the sovereignty of Arab states or any interference with their security and stability, according to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy.
Sisi emphasised Egypt’s firm stance on the necessity of returning to dialogue and diplomacy to reach political solutions to the current crisis. He stated that military solutions would not serve the interests of any party and threatened to plunge the region into a “vicious cycle of violence, instability, and bloodshed,” which contradicts the aspirations of the region’s people for prosperity and security.
For his part, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast position in supporting the security and stability of the UAE and all Arab countries, praising the deeply rooted brotherly relations between the two nations.
The calls follow an Iranian missile barrage on several Arab Gulf cities on Saturday in response of US and Israeli strikes on Iran. UAE state media reported that one person was killed in Abu Dhabi, though further details were not provided. In Dubai, fires broke out near a hotel on the Palm Islands following multiple blasts, while residents across several cities took cover as air defences intercepted incoming barrages.
