The Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) office in Washington, headed by Minister Plenipotentiary for Commercial Affairs Yehia El Wathik Bellah, organised Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Chairperson Walid Gamal El-Din’s first promotional mission to the United States from 1 to 5 December 2025.
Covering Washington, D.C. and New York, the visit aimed to showcase investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and highlight priority sectors and incentives available to American investors.
In New York, the delegation held a series of high-level meetings with major U.S. corporations and investment entities, including medical device manufacturer Becton Dickinson and real estate developer Boraie Development. The programme also featured a roundtable hosted by global law firm DLA Piper, alongside bilateral discussions with Climatic Co., active in renewable energy, and Duffy Capital Partners, specialised in sustainability and waste management solutions.
The New York mission concluded with two additional roundtable sessions held with HSBC Bank and the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU). The meetings brought together several U.S. companies, among them Citigroup, TCW Group, Alvarez & Marsal, Data Dynamics, International Development, International Merchant Bank, Operator Fund I, Resecurity, and Southshore Resources.
In Washington, Chairperson Gamal El-Dien met with prominent American corporations including Merck (pharmaceuticals), Blumbergrain (logistics systems), and Honeywell (automation and control technologies). He also joined roundtable discussions hosted by McLarty Associates, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and DLA Piper, attended by leading industrial and technology companies such as Bechtel, Chevron, SpaceX, Motorola Solutions, Caterpillar, and Lucid Motors.
He further held talks with the American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI), as well as the United States Energy Association (USEA), focusing on cooperation in sustainable energy and transport. The programme included a roundtable organised by the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation in Maryland, along with specialised meetings across strategic sectors—water desalination with AquaTech, logistics security with OSI Rapiscan, advanced technologies with ServiceNow, and artificial intelligence with NVIDIA.
Yehia El Wathik Bellah, Head of the ECS office in Washington, affirmed that the office will continue to follow up on the mission’s outcomes and work to translate the strong interest shown by American companies into concrete investments and partnerships.
Commenting on the visit, ECS Chairperson Abdel Aziz El Sherif said it reflects the deepening cooperation between the ECS and SCZONE in promoting Egypt as an attractive investment destination in one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors. He added that the mission’s success in establishing direct dialogue with leading U.S. institutions highlights SCZONE’s competitive advantages—from modern infrastructure and integrated industrial value chains to ongoing government reforms aimed at improving the investment climate.
