Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Saturday instructed the government to accelerate efforts to provide electricity to major agricultural and reclamation projects, particularly the New Delta development, while continuing to expand renewable energy investments to strengthen Egypt’s national energy and food security.

According to a presidential statement, the directives came during a meeting attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Electricity Minister Mahmoud Assem, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy, and Bahaa El-Ghannam, Chief Executive of the Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Agency.

The discussions focused on coordination between the electricity and petroleum ministries and the Future of Egypt Agency, especially in ensuring adequate and stable electricity supply for new agricultural reclamation zones. The meeting also reviewed plans to construct new transformer stations and extend power lines to support food production and irrigation infrastructure.

President Al-Sisi called for the swift completion of power infrastructure for the New Delta Project and other agricultural ventures to secure the cultivation of strategic crops amid ongoing global and regional challenges. He also directed officials to regularly update the National Energy Security Plan to align with Egypt’s development priorities and changing energy needs.

During the meeting, the President reviewed progress on Egypt’s National Energy Strategy to 2040, the Renewable Energy Strategy, and ongoing clean energy initiatives. He emphasised the importance of increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the national electricity mix and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Al-Sisi further stressed the need to enhance energy efficiency, improve electricity network quality, and minimise transmission losses. He urged the government to ensure sufficient petroleum supplies to guarantee uninterrupted operation of power plants and to intensify efforts to attract new investments into both the petroleum and renewable energy sectors.

The President also underscored the importance of localising energy-related industries, including components for renewable power generation, transmission, and storage, as part of Egypt’s broader sustainable development strategy.

He affirmed that these efforts would not only support Egypt’s food and energy security objectives, but also reinforce the country’s position as a regional energy hub capable of exporting surplus power and contributing to regional stability.
