Egypt explores water cooperation with 4 African countries

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel Aty, held several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Algeria, Uganda, Angola, and Sierra Leone, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

On the sidelines of his participation in the “Planet Budapest” conference, in Hungary, Abdel Aty met also with representatives of a number of companies to discuss ways to benefit from their work and the modern technology they offer in developing the water system in Egypt and maximizing the return from the water unit.

Abdel Aty invited Karim Hosni, the Algerian Minister of Water Resources, to visit Cairo to participate in the fifth edition of the Cairo Water Week to be held in October 2022 and the COP 27, and to visit the major projects currently being implemented in the field of water resources, according to a statement from the Irrigation Ministry on Friday evening.

The two ministers also expressed interest to benefit from exchanging experiences between the two countries, especially in the fields of modern irrigation, water treatment, rational management of groundwater, coastal protection, and institutional and legislative reform.

Moreover, the Egyptian Irrigation Minister discussed with his Ugandan counterpart Sam Mangosho, the position of joint cooperation projects between the two countries and ways to enhance mutual cooperation, and the implementation of the grass disinfection project in the Uganda Kasese region.

Abdel Aty would visit Uganda soon to inaugurate a number of development projects that Egypt is implementing in the African country.

During the meetings, Abdel Aty referred to the distinguished training capabilities owned by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, such as the Regional Training Center, which is considered a second-class UNESCO accredited body as one of the distinguished centers in the application of all international quality standards in the training plans and scientific materials provided.
