On Sunday several hundred student protesters gathered in front of the Faculty of Science building on the Al-Azhar University campus to mark the 100 days since supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi were dispersed from mass sit-ins during a violent government crackdown. Students carried flags and hand signs representing the sit-in at Rabaa Al-Adaweya mosque as they chanted against the police and army. While not all students agreed that Morsi should return to power, the vast crowd was opposed to the government formed by commander of the armed forces Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi after Morsi’s ouster. The protest took a break to pray the mid-afternoon prayer.  The remaining students marched off campus where it dispersed without incident. Notably, two journalists were arrested by police while covering the protest—a freelance photojournalist for broadcaster CBC, and a photojournalist for this newspaper, the Daily News Egypt.
