The planned Forbes International Tower in Egypt’s New Capital is targeting net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and LEED Platinum green-building certification, according to the Ministry of Local Development and Environment.

Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad discussed the project during a meeting with Forbes Global Group CEO Michael Gilbert and Magnum Properties CEO Maged Marie to review environmental requirements and sustainability plans for the development.

The tower, planned for the New Capital’s Central Business District, is being positioned as a model for future buildings combining architectural innovation, smart infrastructure, clean energy and resource-efficient operations.

Company representatives said the project aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 through a range of decarbonisation strategies, while seeking top international green-building ratings, including LEED Platinum certification.

Discussions covered energy and water efficiency, emissions reduction, resource management and environmental standards throughout the construction and operational phases. The project is also exploring resource-efficient solutions involving clean hydrogen, according to the ministry.

Awad said technical coordination between the ministry and the developer would continue to ensure compliance with Egyptian environmental regulations while incorporating international best practices for sustainable buildings.

She said the project should address sustainability beyond energy consumption and carbon emissions, including more efficient use of water and other resources and the adoption of innovative technologies in its design, construction and operation.

Gilbert said the project could provide a platform to highlight Egypt’s investment opportunities internationally, particularly in sustainable real estate developments.

Marie said the tower was intended to serve as an integrated sustainable urban development model combining investment, innovation, energy efficiency and international environmental standards.

Awad said supporting such developments forms part of Egypt’s efforts to expand private-sector investment in projects combining economic returns with environmental and climate benefits, while strengthening the New Capital’s position as a regional business and investment hub.
