Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, met with Greek Ambassador to Egypt Nikolaos Papageorgiou to discuss ways to strengthen industrial cooperation and expand Greek investments in the Egyptian market.

The discussions focused on leveraging Egypt’s investment incentives to encourage Greek companies to establish manufacturing operations in the country, positioning Egypt as a regional production and export hub serving African and neighbouring markets.

The two sides reviewed investment opportunities in pharmaceuticals, engineering industries, petrochemicals, clean energy projects, and industrial capacity building. They also highlighted the success of Greek companies operating in Egypt as a model for attracting additional investments.

Hashem said the Ministry of Industry is implementing a comprehensive strategy aimed not only at increasing industrial production to meet domestic demand but also at positioning Egypt as a regional hub for manufacturing and exports.

He noted that attracting European manufacturers seeking to relocate production to Egypt is among the ministry’s top priorities, supported by investment incentives and the country’s ability to provide access to African and regional markets.

The minister added that the strategy focuses on supporting existing investors by addressing their challenges and improving the business environment, while simultaneously attracting new industrial investments.

He also stressed that the success and profitability of foreign companies operating in Egypt serve as one of the strongest promotional tools for encouraging further investment.

Hashem called for deeper engagement with the Greek business community through a roundtable bringing together Greek companies operating in Egypt to discuss challenges, identify practical solutions, and translate joint ideas into concrete projects that deliver mutual benefits.

For his part, Ambassador Papageorgiou said Greek-Egyptian relations have reached an unprecedented level, stressing that expanding economic and industrial cooperation to match the strength of bilateral political ties is a key priority for Greece.

He described Egypt as a strategic destination for Greek companies, citing its political stability, advanced infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strategic location as a gateway to African markets. He added that Greece, in turn, serves as Egypt’s gateway to Europe.

The ambassador also praised the success of Greek investments in Egypt, highlighting companies such as Titan Cement, Coca-Cola Hellenic, and Alumil, as well as joint projects in Suez Canal ship waste management and advanced medical equipment. He said these success stories provide a strong foundation for attracting further bilateral investments.

The meeting was attended by Ahmed Maghawry, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation, and Ahmed Osama, Supervisor of the Technical Office of the Minister of Industry.
