Egypt explores defence industry cooperation with South Korea’s BongSan

Salah Gombalat, Minister of State for Military Production, received a delegation from the South Korean company BongSan to explore avenues for joint cooperation in the defence industries sector.

Gombalat said that the ministry is implementing an integrated strategy, in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, to deepen local manufacturing and localise advanced technologies within Military Production companies. He noted that cooperation with leading global firms is a key pillar of this strategy, particularly in high-tech defence sectors.

During the meeting, the minister expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between Egypt and South Korea, which has witnessed significant development in recent years with the support of the leadership of both friendly countries. He pointed to existing fruitful collaboration between Military Production companies and the South Korean side across several strategic industrial fields, reflecting the mutual trust between the two parties.

The meeting reviewed a number of areas of mutual interest and explored opportunities for exchanging technical and technological expertise in defence industries. It also highlighted the potential to further enhance cooperation through integration into supply chains, in light of the Ministry of Military Production’s capabilities in providing raw materials and production inputs at high quality and competitive prices through a wide network of local suppliers. This contributes to reducing import costs, achieving economic savings, and enhancing the competitiveness of final products for both sides.

Gombalat explained that the Ministry of Military Production possesses a sophisticated industrial and technological base, along with extensive accumulated expertise across various fields of military manufacturing, enabling it to establish productive partnerships that serve mutual interests. He stressed the ministry’s openness to cooperation with serious international partners in support of Egypt’s efforts to build a strong and advanced industrial base and enhance national manufacturing and defence capabilities.

Furthermore, he emphasised that industrial development now relies on the integration of qualified human capital, advanced technological infrastructure, and the modernisation of production systems. He noted the ministry’s commitment to investing in its workforce and adopting advanced manufacturing systems.

For their part, representatives of the South Korean company BongSan praised the manufacturing capabilities of Military Production companies and expressed the company’s interest in strengthening cooperation with the Egyptian side in a manner that achieves the objectives of both parties and opens new horizons for future partnership. They also stressed that defence industries represent one of the fundamental pillars of national power.
