Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, met with Ireland’s Ambassador to Egypt, Aidan O’Hara, to discuss expanding industrial cooperation and strengthening trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The meeting, attended by Ahmed Maghawry, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation, and senior ministry officials, focused on priority sectors for collaboration, including pharmaceuticals, electronics, software, and communications, where Irish companies hold advanced expertise and technological capabilities.

Preparations were also discussed for an upcoming visit by a delegation from Ireland’s Export Development Authority, scheduled for the last week of June, aimed at exploring opportunities in the Egyptian market.

Hashem emphasized Egypt’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and benefiting from Ireland’s industrial know-how in technology transfer, knowledge sharing, and local manufacturing development. He noted that Egypt’s updated industrial development strategy identifies pharmaceuticals, particularly active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), food industries, textiles, and electronics as priority sectors for growth and investment.

“These sectors align closely with areas where Irish companies have accumulated extensive expertise and advanced technological know-how,” Hashem said, adding that stronger cooperation could help localize industries, transfer technology, and enhance Egypt’s industrial capabilities.

He also proposed that the upcoming Irish trade delegation explore establishing a joint Egyptian-Irish Business Council to boost trade, attract investment, and facilitate knowledge exchange between the two countries’ business communities.

Ambassador O’Hara welcomed the initiative, describing Egypt as one of Ireland’s most important partners in the region. He highlighted Ireland’s interest in expanding cooperation, noting that Irish companies in pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and artificial intelligence are keen to invest in Egypt, citing the country’s improving infrastructure, supportive legislative framework, and growing market opportunities.

The meeting reflects growing momentum in Egypt-Ireland economic relations, with both sides seeking to leverage their strengths to promote industrial development, technology transfer, and increased investment flows.
