Egypt has reiterated its full support for Libyan state institutions in carrying out their tasks in order to fulfill all the necessary frameworks for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as soon as possible.

In a statement issued Sunday by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt called on all international parties to support these national efforts in the framework of commitment to the principle of supporting the Libyan solution, in order to preserve the stability and sovereignty of Libya and achieve the aspirations of its brotherly people.

It welcomed the joint statement issued in Benghazi on Saturday by Mohamed Al-Manfi, Chief of the Libyan Presidential Council; Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the House of Representatives; and Khalifa Haftar, commander-in-chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces.

Egypt appreciated the statement’s affirmation of national ownership of any political track and Libyan National Dialogue, as well as the assumption by the House of Representatives to exercise its powers to take all measures to adopt the electoral laws referred to it by the 6+6 committee after the completion of its work.

The Libyan leader called on Abdoulaye Bathily, the head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, not to take any unilateral steps in connection with the political track.

The Egyptian statement stressed the importance of inviting the chairman of the presidential council to a meeting that includes the presidency of the House of Representatives and the state for consultation in order to complete the national political track, in order to achieve the greatest possible consensus to complete the electoral laws.

Al-Manfi, Saleh, and Haftar agreed in Benghazi on Saturday not to participate in any committees except the internal national framework.

A joint statement issued by the meeting confirmed that the Libyan House of Representatives will take all measures to adopt the electoral laws referred to it by the 6+6 Committee after completing its work and meetings to put them into effect.

The conferees appreciated the role of Bathily, in supporting local agreements, leading up to the presidential and parliamentary elections.

They called on the UN envoy not to take any unilateral steps on the political track, stressing the importance of the invitation of the President of the Libyan Presidential Council to the Presidency of both the House of Representatives and the State Council to consult to complete the national political track to achieve the greatest possible consensus in order to achieve the electoral laws.

Political, military and social actors in the Libyan scene reject any move by Bathily to form a high-level committee, as hinted during his previous briefing before the UN Security Council, in the event that the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State do not approve electoral laws within the framework of the 6+6 Committee.
