Egypt reclaims 537,100 feddan as part of 1.5 million feddan project in 2021/22

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has issued its annual bulletin of land reclamation for 2021/22. 

The most important indicators came as follows: The total area of reclaimed land reached 163,200 feddan in 2021/22 compared to 87,100 feddan in 2020/21, an increase of 87.3% due to increase in reclaimed private lands. 

The cultivated area by the private sector companies reached 133,000 feddan (81.4% of total reclaimed lands), the cooperative societies reclaimed 25,400 feddan (15.5%), and the General Authority for Reconstruction and Agricultural Development cultivated 5,000 feddan (3.1%) in 2021/22.

Egypt cultivated 136,500 feddan from the 1.5 million feddan project in 2021/22, compared to 140,000 feddan in 2020/21, a decrease by 2.2%.

Matrouh governorate ranked first in terms of reclaimed areas, reaching 198,100 feddan (36.9%), followed by Minia governorate with an area of 175,600 feddan (32.7%), New Valley with an area of 17,600 feddan (3.3%), and Aswan governorate with an area of 55,000 feddan (10.2%).
