Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi, the Arab Parliament Speaker, expressed the parliament’s support for the wise policy of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in his management of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis.

This came during Al-Asoumi’s speech at the opening of the fifth general session of the Arab Parliament, which started Saturday at the headquarters of the Arab League.

He stressed the Arab Parliament’s support for the rights of Egypt and Sudan in the waters of the Nile River, calling on the Ethiopian side to immediately stop any steps that harm the water rights of Egypt and Sudan.

Al-Asoumi said in previous statements that “the issue of the GERD is not an Egyptian or Sudanese issue, but it is related to Arab national security.”

“The Ethiopian side is not appreciative of Egypt’s cooperation and respectful calm,” he said.

“The Arab Parliament continues its role in communicating with international organizations, the United Nations(UN) and the International Union of parliaments to convey the Egyptian opinion and position on the issue of the Renaissance Dam,” Al-Asoumi added.

He stressed that the Egyptian position is in line with international charters, standards and agreements, continuing: “there is not the slightest fear of President Sisi’s ability to manage this file and achieve the Egyptian-Sudanese-Arab interest.
