The South Korean city of Busan was chosen to host the General Assembly of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for the year 2025, during a WADA Board of Directors conference held in Cairo on 19 May, after fierce competition among the candidate cities, including Finland’s Tampere.

Busan’s election came with an overwhelming support from WADA board members. Busan is the first Asian city to host the General Assembly of WADA.

The WADA General Assembly is the largest conference in the anti-doping field, and is held every six years.

Egypt’s hosting of this session of the WADA Board of Directors Conference at the Mena House Hotel in Cairo contributed to the advancement of Egypt’s diplomatic position in the field of sports through the skill of organizing the event and providing various facilities for the missions of the participating countries.

Earlier, Korean Ambassador to Cairo Hong Jin Wook, accompanied by the Busan delegation, met Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to activate the exchange between the two countries in the field of youth and sports.

It is expected that the win of the South Korean city of Busan to host the 2025 WADA conference will be a good opportunity to strengthen the comprehensive partnership relationship between Korea and Egypt in the field of sports.
