Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy met on Tuesday with his Qatari counterpart Salah bin Ghanem Al-Ali, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sports infrastructure.
This came during Sobhy’s visit to Qatar to attend the opening ceremony of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, which will run from 30 November to 18 December, with the participation of 16 Arab teams.
Both Ministers tackled the future visions towards activating cooperation between the Egyptian and Qatari sides to launch various youth programmes which include increasing sports investment, and benefiting from the Egyptian organizational expertise in hosting major international sports tournaments.
Sobhy stressed Egypt’s keenness to consolidate relations and deepen bilateral cooperation with Qatar through the implementation of a set of joint programs and projects that will be launched during the upcoming period.
The meeting also tackled the Qatari preparations to host the Arab Cup, and the participation of the Egyptian national team in the tournament competitions within the fourth group, which includes Algeria, Lebanon and Sudan.
This year’s Arab Cup was the 10th edition and was organised by FIFA for the first time. It comes as a rehearsal ahead of the 2022 World Cup which will be hosted by Qatar.
