Egypt on Wednesday condemned missile attacks targeting Jordan and called for an immediate halt to the escalation, as Egyptian officials stepped up regional contacts aimed at preventing a wider confrontation.

The Foreign Ministry said Egypt strongly condemned the attacks on Jordanian territory and expressed full solidarity with Amman in confronting threats to its security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Cairo called for an immediate end to the attacks, restraint and greater reliance on diplomatic channels, warning that further escalation could push the region towards greater instability.

In a related diplomatic contact, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by telephone with his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, about recent regional developments and their implications for security and stability.

The two ministers stressed the need for continued coordination and consultations, as well as intensified efforts to contain tensions and reduce escalation, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

They also discussed bilateral relations and expressed interest in expanding cooperation between Egypt and Bahrain.
