Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, met Sunday with Jan Kubis, the Special Envoy of the UN and Head of the Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), to discuss completing all requirements for ending the transitional phase and bringing about stability in Libya.

A statement issued by the Arab League said, “During the meeting, Aboul Gheit listened to Kubis’ presentation on the developments in the implementation of the plan to remove mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya.”

Kubis also reviewed the ongoing efforts to approve the final version of the legal framework for the parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya, which the Libyan House of Representatives is currently considering.

This comes in light of the amendments proposed by the High National Elections Commission, allowing them to be carried out on time in accordance with the road map approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, Security Council resolutions 2570 (2021) and 2571 (2021), and the outcomes of the Berlin Conference 2.

The statement also indicated that they discussed the results of the conference to support the stability of Libya, which was held recently in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and the Paris summit on Libya, scheduled to be held on 12 November, and the impact of the two conferences on the political process in the country.
