Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad announced, on Monday, the start of a study for the development of the Al-Jara area in the Siwa Oasis, Matrouh governorate.
The project aims to transform the area into a unique destination for eco-tourism, in cooperation with the Egyptian-Italian Environmental Cooperation Project Phase III, which contributes to creating new tributaries for eco-tourism in the region while preserving its natural resources.
Fouad stressed that the development of the Al-Jara area aims to create a new destination for eco-tourism in the reserve that combines the heritage, environmental and natural character of the place.
She noted that the project contributes to protecting natural resources and achieving environmental sustainability for tourist destinations, in addition to promoting the diverse cultures of the local population and transforming the unique environment of the area.
It also will provide a real opportunity for environmental investment to enjoy an integrated and unique tourism experience that combines natural, cultural and artisanal heritage. The area will attract lovers of environmental and cultural tourism to the governorate from Egypt and the world.
The development work will include displaying the natural heritage of the region represented in excavations of ancient times and its effects on the modern era as a story that tells the interrelationship between the environment and the society.
According to Fouad, the project will be the first environmental tourism project that reflects the region’s nobility, in addition to providing infrastructure and services that are compatible with the value of the heritage area and provide an attractive and interesting tourist experience for visitors.
