Egypt’s Ministers of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani, and Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, met on Saturday to discuss the executive position of certain digital transformation projects.

These projects were implemented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The two ministers reviewed the projects as part of the cooperation protocol they signed last November, to develop the technological infrastructure at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Tourism Affairs Ghada Shalaby and Rafat Hendi, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Infrastructure Affairs. Leaders and other representatives from the two ministries were also present.

During the meeting, developments regarding the integration and development of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ technological portals were discussed, as well as the creation of a mobile application to provide services to tourists.

Additionally, the parties discussed the project automating services at the Ministry’s general office, and developing archaeological mission request services and automating work. Moreover, they discussed developing a map management system for archaeological and tourist sites.

El-Anani said that the projects to develop his ministry’s technological infrastructure rest on the basis of its strategy to achieve the goals of sustainable development. It also aims to build an accurate information system on the various patterns of Egyptian tourism.

The goal is to improve the ministry’s work performance as well as the digital services it provides to tourists. At the same time, it will maximise the use of modern technology in promoting tourism and Egyptian antiquities, introducing archaeological sites and museums, and providing tourism services to tourists.

For his part, Talaat said that the cooperation between the two ministries enables the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to use the latest international technologies in implementing its plans to develop its services and make them digitally available.

It comes in addition to providing the necessary digital mechanisms to maximise communication between tourists.

This is part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s role to provide the necessary technological infrastructure to support and develop the state sectors, and build a digital Egypt.

The two ministries signed, last November, a cooperation protocol to develop the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ technological infrastructure, and implement a number of digital transformation projects.

This comes with the aim of achieving the transformation into a digital society, developing and improving tourism services and demonstrating the value of tourist and archaeological attractions.

It also looks to increase the opportunities for their spread to enhance financial resources as one of the most important factors of economic growth.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities also aims to raise archaeological awareness in Egypt, and introduce the Egyptian and global communities to its activities and services.

It is expected to contribute to the revitalisation of tourism to Egypt in the coming period, and increase the number of inbound tourists.
