Irrigation Minister reviews digital transformation, preparations for NAC move

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aaty met with high-level representatives from his ministry, on Wednesday, to follow up on the measures for digital transformation.

The meeting also addressed the ministry’s ongoing preparations to move to the New Administrative Capital (NAC), as well as the mechanisms for achieving optimal management of Egypt’s waterways network.

This also saw a review of a system for counting encroachments on the River Nile and its islands, and also touched on the modern irrigation system Egypt is currently implementing.

During the meeting, Abdel Aaty directed for digital transformation applications to be used, whilst updating the necessary data to allow the activation of these systems and to make the best use of them.

He further stressed that a central unit responsible for digital transformation had already been formed at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The unit will be responsible for designing a programme for business automation, and the initial inventory of the documents required to be digitised.

Moreover, the minister reviewed the procedures for digital transformation and the applications that have been created by the engineers of the ministry. He noted that these applications include several levels of work organisation, including the investment plan for his ministry’s projects.

Abdel Aaty also pointed out that all stores belonging to the ministry have been linked to a single system, to achieve integration between the authorities and reduce the purchase of spare parts.
