The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have signed a joint cooperation protocol to develop the latter’s technological infrastructure.
The signing was witnessed by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Al-Anani.
The term of this protocol is three years, and aims to contribute to the transformation into a digital society, developing and improving tourism services, whilst also demonstrating the value of tourist and archaeological monuments.
At the same time, it aims to increase the opportunities for their spread to enhance financial resources as one of the most important factors for economic growth.
The agreement will work to preserving, documenting and making information available about Egyptian antiquities using modern technologies, whilst also raising archaeological awareness and introducing society to the activities and services of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
It will also contribute to the revitalisation of Egyptian tourism in the coming period, and increase the number of tourists coming to the country.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Al-Anani said the protocol is a double protocol for tourism services and the promotion of the Egyptian tourism product.
It sets out to provide new digital services so that Egypt’s tourist experience is an exceptional experience, and at the same time provides a very important service, documenting and registering artefacts in Egypt.
Al-Anani said that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis has proven the success of his ministry’s experiment to provide, through its various communication platforms, a number of virtual visits to archaeological sites and museums in Egypt. These provisions have met with great demand from local and international communities.
For his part, Talaat said that this protocol is a continuation of the joint cooperation between the two ministries in a number of projects. These have worked to use CIT services in promoting Egyptian tourism at the global level, and introducing the world to the unique archaeological treasures that the country has.
The scope of the protocol’s work includes: developing applications, electronic portals and existing mobile applications; creating new websites and applications in line with the merger of the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities through the merging and development of tourism and antiquities portals; and the integration and development of mobile phone applications for the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in various languages, which include technological applications for visitors.
