Uber has announced seven new initiatives in Egypt as it continues to fulfil its commitment to support the community during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The latest partnerships include collaborations with the Ahl Masr Foundation, the Egyptian Red Crescent, and Venture Lifestyle. Continuing its commitment to support the medical sector, Uber has partnered with Tabibi.

Uber has added five new hospitals to its initiative, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, which provides frontline healthcare workers with free trips. The latest additions bring the total number of hospitals it supports in the initiative to nine.

“Driven by a growing sense of social responsibility, we focused on partnering with community foundations to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable communities,” said Uber Egypt General Manager Ahmed Khalil, adding, “We are always on the lookout for opportunities to support the society, fulfilling our global pledge to move what matters.”

Khalil also said, “We will continue working closely with various parties and contributing Uber’s technology to accommodate the rising needs of the society, while focusing on the safety measures that will help curb the rise of the virus.”

Fulfilling its commitment announced in April to support frontline healthcare workers at four quarantine hospitals in Cairo and Alexandria, Uber has extended its support to the medical sector. It now provides free and discounted rides to staff at the two As-Salam International Hospitals, two Dar Al Fouad Hospitals, and the Saudi German Hospital.

In addition, Uber has also collaborated with Tabibi, the 24/7 private healthcare service provider, to provide its staff with discounted trips. This will help facilitate home visits to patients in need of medical care.

Uber partnered with the Egyptian Red Crescent to help medical volunteers and workers move freely as they work to contain and fight the coronavirus. The company has already helped 2,000 volunteers access transportation by providing 4,000 free trips.

In collaboration with Ahl Masr, the foundation dedicated to treating, preventing and researching trauma and burn injuries, Uber has provided logistical support. It has offered more than 1,000 free trips for 70 agents, to help them collect donations for existing patients.

During Ramadan, Uber Bus partnered with Venture Lifestyle to launch Arabeyet El Kheir (Charity Car), to facilitate the distribution of 100,000 hot meals and 600 food bags to less fortunate communities.

The seven partnerships come as part of Uber’s global pledge, with the objective of supporting healthcare workers and communities in need to Move What Matters. Uber is also looking to support public authorities and the community as they work to stem the pandemic
