Five transformer stations run by the Egyptian German Electrical Manufacturing Company (EGEMAC) will start operations within weeks, according to the company’s Chairperson and Managing Director, Medhat Ramadan.
This will see the El Hay El Motamayez and Sadat transformer stations commence operations. This comes alongside three further stations located in the Tamiya area of Fayoum, in the north of Hurghada and at Awlad Saqr.
Ramadan added that the company has this year implemented 19 transformer stations nationwide. This brings the total number of stations under its umbrella which are part of the national network to 340, at various voltages.
He noted that EGEMAC is currently working on 16 stations, including seven high-voltage stations that will be finished before by mid-2020.
Ramadan said that a giant transformer plant in Ain Sokhna was opened in cooperation with Chinese smart energy solutions company, CHINT International. Furthermore, EGEMAC and CHINT International signed a cooperation agreement to start work in manufacturing and producing low-voltage and dry transformers.
Ramadan said that the transformer stations currently heading to completion include the construction of four giant stations serving the giant Benban solar energy project using a turnkey system.
These projects are being implemented with local expertise, which can be seen in the lower construction costs than those implemented by private sector companies.
He pointed out that the company was able to produce transformers of 175 MV voltages, which is the highest capacity of transformers produced locally. The company continues its work at the 11/66 kV El Malak station, the 220/66 kV 15 May station, and the 220/66/22 kV Hurghada station.
Five mobile transformer stations are currently undergoing construction, with the most important being the Berenice and Marsa Alam stations located on the southern Red Sea coast.
Ramadan emphasised that local expertise is highly efficient and able to compete on an international level. He added that EGEMAC’s Ain Sokhna power transformers factory, which took EGP 400m in investments, is the first of its kind in the Middle East, and boasts a technology capacity of 4,000 MV annually. He noted that it can be expanded to provide for the local market demand, with the surplus exported to global markets.
