Non-bank financing for MSMEs surpasses EGP 100bn in May 2026: FRA

The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) revealed that the outstanding balance of financing provided by companies and associations operating in the financing of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Egyptian market reached EGP 100.043bn in May 2026, compared to EGP 86.349bn in May 2025, marking an increase of EGP 13.694bn.

Financing extended by companies and associations to microenterprises reached EGP 74.125bn, compared to EGP 66.280bn, while the number of beneficiaries stood at 3.410 million, compared to 3.651 million a year earlier.

Meanwhile, financing directed to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) reached EGP 25.917bn, compared to EGP 20.159bn, while the number of beneficiaries rose to 17,200 from 14,400.

According to the FRA, companies operating in this segment accounted for 68.26% of outstanding microfinance balances, while Category A civil associations and institutions accounted for 29.69%. Category C associations and institutions held a 0.9% share, while Category B associations and institutions accounted for 1.15%.

Consumer finance

In a related development, the FRA revealed that consumer finance companies provided financing worth around EGP 51.038bn in May 2026, compared to EGP 29.240bn in May 2025, an increase of EGP 21.798bn. The number of consumer finance beneficiaries also reached 6.478 million customers, compared to 3.824 million.

According to the FRA, the purchase of cars and vehicles accounted for 23.6% of total consumer financing, followed by electrical appliances and electronics at 21.1%, consumer goods purchased through financing cards at 13.3%, and household appliances at 9.2%.

Financial leasing

The value of contracts signed by financial leasing companies reached EGP 76.173bn in May 2026, compared to EGP 68.588bn in May 2025, an increase of EGP 7.585bn.

The FRA said that the number of contracts in the sector reached 899, compared to 926 a year earlier.

Regarding the real estate and land sector, it accounted for 69.9% of total financing, followed by machinery and equipment at 9.9%, transport vehicles at 6.5%, production lines at 4.3%, and passenger cars at 2.9%.

Mortgage finance

Total mortgage finance provided by companies operating in the sector reached around EGP 19.958bn in May 2026, compared to EGP 16.576bn in May 2025, an increase of EGP 3.382bn. The number of mortgage finance contracts stood at 5,648, compared to 6,807.

According to the FRA, companies’ financing was distributed between 417 contracts for regular customers worth EGP 7.590bn and purchased portfolios comprising 5,231 contracts worth EGP 12.368bn.
