WBG, IMF 2020 Spring Meetings to kick off virtually

The World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will virtually launch their 2020 Spring Meeting on 17-20 April due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The World Economic Outlook will be announced at a press briefing on 14 April, with three speakers contributing, including Gita Gopinath, Chief Economist and Director of the IMF’s Research Department; Gian Maria Milesi-Ferretti, Deputy Director at the IMF’s Research Department; and Malhar Shyam Nabar, Division Chief, Research Department at the IMF. Moderating the briefing will be Raphael Anspach, Senior Communications Officer at the IMF’s Communications Department.

Later on the same day, a press briefing on Global Financial Stability Report will take place. Tobias Adrian, Financial Counselor and Director at the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department, will speak at this briefing, while Randa Elnagar, Senior Communications Officer at the IMF’s Communications Department, will moderate the briefing.

On 15 April, the European Department will hold their virtual press briefing, with the Regional Economic Outlook on Sub-Saharan Africa to be launched. A press briefing on Fiscal Monitoring will take place, with a G20 press briefing to be convened while IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva will speak at a press conference on Wednesday.

On the same day, the Middle East and Central Asia Department will hold a conference with the IMF’s Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department, Jihad Azour, speaking, and Wafa Amr, Senior Communications Officer at the IMF’s Communications Department moderating.

On 16 April, an IMF press conference will take place, in addition to the Western Hemisphere Department briefing. The following day, the Development Committee will hold its meeting and WBG President David Malpass will speak at a press conference in conclusion on the meetings.
