The Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) and Egyptian Cure Bank have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to contribute the financial support for the public health sector ventilator maintenance. The MoU, with the added support of the Egyptian Authority for the Unified Procurement of Medical Supply and Technology, will add a large number of ventilators to the public health sector with immediate effect.

The FEI said there are currently 460 ventilators in public hospitals which need maintenance. The three parties under the MoU are directing their attention to maintaining these devices and putting them back into service in a short time.

The quick turnaround will be easier to achieve considering the agents representing the ventilator producing companies are already present in Egypt.

The first phase of ventilator maintenance will see 122 devices repaired, with a total value of EGP 7.763m. Of these, 87 ventilators will be repaired within a week, with the rest going for repairs within two weeks, the FEI said.

The first phase will be followed by two further phases, during which the necessary spare parts will be provided to ensure these ventilators will be back in operation.

The FEI and Egyptian Cure Bank will purchase ventilators from the Egyptian Authority for the Unified Procurement of Medical Supply and Technology to supply 21 new ventilators within two weeks. This will run in parallel to the ongoing maintenance process.
