The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, announced that there are consultations among the Arab League’s members to agree on Syria’s return to the League on Tuesday, eight years after Syria was expelled from it over its brutal repression of peaceful protests against former President Bashar al-Assad, Egyptian local media reported.

In a statement following the meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers, Shoukry said that Syria’s return to the Arab League will be studied once the soaring tensions in Syria are eased, affirming that Syria is an important Arab country.

“Once Syria overcomes the current crisis and is able to execute a vivid political plan, the Arab League will study the suitable time for Syria’s return,” he explained.

Tuesday’s meeting also discussed several topics such as the Palestinian cause, Syria, Yemen and Libya, and ways to annihilate terrorism. The meeting also followed up on the enhancements to fix the financial and administrative system of the Arab organisation.
