General Prosecutor orders investigation into child abuse by YouTube vloggers

Egypt’s General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek decided to open an urgent investigation into a report filed by the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) against two YouTube vloggers for abusing their newborn in a video.

Secretary-General of NCCM, Azza al-Ashmawy, accused the couple, Ahmed and Zeinab, of abusing their baby girl and exposing her to harm.

Al-Ashmawy said in her report to the prosecutor that council has already received several complaints about the video which the law.

A video was circulated on social media platforms showing the two vloggers irritating their newborn until she cried. The video stirred anger of social media users, who accused the parents of using their baby to achieve high viewing rates.

The video allegedly violated the Egyptian Child Law which stipulates that exposing a child to harm, neglect, violence, exploitation, or displacement is a form of child abuse that should be punished.
