Jubek State of South Sudan signed in Cairo a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a cooperation protocol with the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) and the Atta Investment Group on Tuesday on trade, investment, and agricultural exchanges and the establishment of the largest industrial investment zone to meet the needs of central Sudan and Africa.

The signing of the protocol was attended by representatives of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC), and a number of Egyptian businessmen and investors, as well as a UAE government consultant.

Attending from the Sudanese side were the Minister of Information, Culture, Youth, and Sports and the official spokesperson for the State of Jubek Salah Ragab Bondogi, ministers of health and finance, head of the investment authority, the deputy governor of Jubek, attorney general of Jubek economic zone, military and economic attaché at the South Sudan Embassy in Cairo, the acting ambassador of Sudan in Cairo, and head of the legislative Council attended the ceremony.

The Jubek information minister said that his country is keen to boost trade and economic relations with Egypt, highlighting bilateral relations between the two countries and the inter-family and historical ties.

He noted that South Sudan and the Jubek State have many investment opportunities in all fields, including mining, petroleum, agriculture, meat products, and food, appealing to the Egyptian government, businessmen, and investors to work in South Sudan and increase trade and investment between the two countries.

He stressed that the government of South Sudan is working to provide all services and all aspects of cooperation to overcome all obstacles to any Egyptian investments in its territory.

For his part, Mohamed Atta, chairperson of Atta Group, said the aim of signing the protocol of cooperation with the Government of Southern Sudan is to increase trade exchange and Egyptian exports, in addition to strengthening bilateral relations. He noted that the zone will be established over 116 sqm.

Atta Group is one of the largest Egyptian companies in investment, industry, logistics, agricultural development, animal production, and general contracting.
