Russia agreed to lift the temporary restrictions it had imposed on the import of some Egyptian agricultural products, according to Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil. The move came after Egypt ensured it was committed to take all necessary measures in order to ensure the quality and safety of agricultural goods exported to the Russian market.

The minister said that some meetings were held with senior officials of the Russian government, including the ministers of trade and industry and agriculture. A few hours after the Russian Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision decided to temporarily restrict Egyptian imports, government officials held an urgent meeting with the Russian ambassador in Cairo Sergei V. Kirpichenkov to discuss the reasons behind this move and how to reverse it.

Kabil added that the value of the Egyptian agricultural products exported to the Russian market reach about $350m annually.
