$500m for development of industrial zones in Sohag, Qena governorates

Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Tarek Qabil said the final vision for the development of the industrial zones programme in the Sohag and Qena governorates is currently being finalised with a fund of $500m.

The programme is implemented in collaboration with the World Bank within the framework of Local Development of Upper Egypt Programme to developing infrastructure in industrial areas in Qena and Sohag.

It is also providing more incentives and establishing specialised industrial clusters with full facilities and equipment in various industrial sectors.

Minister of Local Development Ahmed Zaki Badr said the Local Development in Upper Egypt Programme aims to support local development in Sohag and Qena through two components.

Badr said the first component is related to raising the economic and competitive capacity, while the second component is related to raising the efficiency of localities and infrastructure in the two governorates.

It will also improve institutional efficiency, address the challenges for institutional and administrative coordination, and strengthen the role of information and communication technology.
