Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat ordered Al-Bayan’s CEO Naguiba Al-Mahgoub, Editor-in-Chief Ibrahim Aref, and reporter Sara Aladdin, state media reported.

Last Monday, Aref was investigated by the prosecution following his arrest on accusations of publishing false news.

The item in question covered the assassination of six prosecutors and was published by the paper on Monday morning, according to the prosecution. However, the report was not to be found on the newspaper’s website later.

Aref was later released on bail, while the prosecution called Al-Mahgoub and Aladdin to investigation.

The prosecution accuses the newspaper of publishing false news that can endanger general security, terrorise people and harm the public interest.
