The Egyptian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a Taliban attack on a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar Tuesday, which left over 125 dead.
News agency Reuters reported that most of those killed in the attack were children.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdelatty said the Egyptian government gives its condolences to Pakistanis and the families of the victims. He stressed the importance of “international collaboration to counterterrorism, as it is considered a global phenomenon targeting security and stability all over the world”.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein condemned the attack, describing it as “an utterly despicable and incomprehensibly vicious attack on defenceless children”.
Al-Hussein added that “everyone should unite to combat this savage extremism”.
In June, Pakistani Taliban gunmen attacked a security post outside Pakistan’s Karachi Airport, leaving at least 34 people dead including 10 attackers. Taliban have mainly targeted security forces, military bases and airports, but civilian attacks have so far been rare, according to Reuters.
