An alleged drug trafficker was shot and killed by police after an incident involving a shoot-out in Qaliubiya governorate on Monday.
Security forces attempted to pull over a vehicle at the entrance to Shibin Al-Qanater village, but the driver failed to stop, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said.
In the ensuing pursuit, the driver of the vehicle opened fire with a shotgun against security personnel, at which the police returned fire and killed him, the ministry said.
The ministry added that the suspect had 250 grams of heroin in his possession in the car, and was wanted on five other charges.
The body of the suspect was transferred to a local hospital, where an angry crowd had gathered, state-owned news agency Al-Ahram reported.
A passenger in the vehicle who fled the scene is being sought for his involvement in the incident.
