Armed forces allocates EGP 1bn to upgrade 31 hospitals

The armed forces’ National Service Products Organisation (NSPO) signed a protocol with the Ministry of Health to upgrade 31 hospitals at a cost of EGP 1bn, Minister of Health Adel Hassan Al-Adawi said, according to the State Information Service.

The hospitals are suffering from “deterioration in their performance”, Al-Adawi said, after a meeting with NSPO representatives, adding that 14 of the hospitals are located in Upper Egypt, 13 hospitals in Lower Egypt and 3 hospitals in the border governorates.

The armed forces is involved in a number of other development projects.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Housing, for example, the armed forces recently oversaw the construction on more than 6,000 government-subsidised residential units in Borg Al-Arab in Alexandria in collaboration. It is now working with the United Arab Emirates Arabtec Construction Company to construct 1m more low-income residential units specifically designated for youth. The project, which is expected to be implemented over the next five years, will be constructed over four stages beginning in next December.

The armed forces is also slated to implement the reclamation process of 40,000 acres in Sinai, with funding from the United Arab Emirates. A total area of 10,000 acres of the aforementioned area will be allocated exclusively to Sinai locals through a closed bid.
