Three football players from Zamalek SC were arrested in Cairo airport on Monday and taken to the Al-Nozha police station after an altercation after an altercation with a football fan.

Mahmoud Abdel Razek (aka Shikabala), Salah Soliman and Hazem Emam were apprehended after star player Shikabala was involved in an argument with a fan wearing an Al-Ahly jersey—Zamalek’s archrivals.

The dispute occurred in Hurghada airport when Shikabala reacted to taunting by the pilot.  The altercation then became physical, reported Al-Ahram.

According to a press release by the Zamalek SC, the altercation delayed the team’s flight from Hurghada for two hours.  A further press release on the team’s website reiterated the club’s “respect and full appreciation of the military and their effort to defend the homeland and to maintain its gains.”

Earlier reports indicated that the man involved in the dispute with Shikabala was a military pilot.  Zamalek SC, however, denied this.

The team was returning from an African Champions League match in El-Gouna against the Orlando Pirates of South Africa.  Zamalek won the match 2-1.
