BlackBerry launched a new multi-platform software service on Tuesday that will allow corporate clients and government agencies to manage and secure their devices, Reuters has reported.
The new software, Secure Work Space, will function on Google’s Android platform as well as Apple’s iOS systems, according to BlackBerry’s website, which noted that the Secure Work Space datasheet includes 19 controls and settings which help insure the security of the software.
BlackBerry added on its site that users will be better able to protect their integrated e-mails, calendars, memos, web browsing and document editing, as well as other features and applications.
BlackBerry, once a leading company for Smartphones, is aiming to increase their profit margin through relying on services, according to Reuters.
The company introduced several new phones earlier this year, such as the Z10, Q10 and the Q5, in an effort to increase their share in the market dominated by Apple and Samsung. Reuters noted that the new devices, however, were not able to re-establish the company in the competitive market and shares dropped during the first quarter of the year.
The release of quarterly reports scheduled for Friday will indicate whether or not the company has been able to recoup its losses and regain their competitive edge.
