Al-Nour Party officials asked Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim to investigate allegations of abuse against Al-Ahrar Salafi youth group members as well as Gamal Saber.

A delegation consisting of the Salafi party’s leader Younes Mekhion, his deputy Al-Sayed Khalifa, and party secretary general Galal Al-Mura met with Ibrahim on Monday night.

“The meeting also included discussions on prisoners held in Tora Prison and what happened with Sheikh Gamal Saber, the founder of Lazem Hazem political group, during his arrest, as well as the treatment of 6 April members after their protest in front of the minister’s house,” Al-Mura said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added that the meeting was primarily held so that the party’s leadership could get to know the minister better and open channels of communication between the party and state bodies.

“We agreed to establish a hotline between the party and the ministry so that we can remain updated on important security developments as well as become informed of the decision making process in the ministry and for the ministry to be aware of the party’s opinions on security transgressions taking place in the Egyptian street,” added Al-Mura.

On the violations committed against Al-Ahrar members who were allegedly beaten and had their heads and beards shaved by police last week, Al-Mura said the Al-Nour delegation demanded the minister launch an investigation into the matter and put an end to “practices from before the revolution”.

Al-Nour Party leaders also met the Minister of Education in March.
