Members of 6 April Youth Movement (Ahmed Maher front) gathered in front of Abdeen Court on Saturday, to protest the arrest and detainment of their members, and demanding investigations into the death of Gaber “Jika” Salah.

Protesters from 6 April waved pictures of Salah while chanting against the Muslim Brotherhood.

6 April member Islam El Husseiny was arrested among seven other protesters on 3 March and is facing charges of assaulting security forces and destroying public property. Members of the movement protested his arrest as well as the arrest of other 6 April members.

Ahmed Atef, another member of the movement, said that “these people were detained for four days, and after only two days their investigations unexpectedly stopped”.

“The trial of [El Husseiny] and the seven others who are still imprisoned, was postponed until Wednesday for absolutely no valid reason. The detainees did not even show up; they will remain in jail and never understand why. No one knows anything anymore,” Atef added.

The movement had previously marched on 6 February from Abdeen Court to the Egyptian High Court of Justice, and on 11 February from the High Court to Mohamed Mahmoud Street. They demanded justice for the death of Gaber “Jika” Salah, who was shot in the head in November 2012 during clashes between protestors and police on Mohamed Mahmoud Street.
