One of President Mohamed Morsy’s former presidential advisers has joined the opposition, only one week after his resignation.

Samir Morcos, Morsy’s former presidential adviser for democratic transition, joined the National Salvation Front, formed by Mohamed ElBaradei, Hamdeen Sabahy, and Amr Moussa, according to various media reports on Friday.

The Coptic thinker announced his resignation last Friday, one day after Morsy’s constitutional declaration, which Morcos called undemocratic. He also expressed his disappointment that as presidential adviser for democratic transition, he was neither consulted nor even notified that the president intended to issue such a decree.

The National Rescue Front was launched in opposition to the constitutional declaration, but its members intend on staying united in the case of future crises. The coalition includes over 35 political parties and movements, including Al-Dostour Party, the Popular Current, the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, Al-Wafd Party and the 6 April Movement.

Morsy’s controversial declaration led to the resignation of a number of his other advisers, including Ayman Al-Sayad, Mohamed Selim Al-Awa, Mohamed Seif Al-Dawla, Sekina Fouad, and Farouk Guweida.
