Health ministry closes three schools as H1N1 cases increase

CAIRO: The Ministry of Health ordered the closure of three schools for two weeks because of the rising number of H1N1 cases among its students.

According to the ministry’s press statement, classes at Cairo International School, Saint Fatima School and Egypt 2000 Modern School will be suspended for two weeks.

Egypt reported 1,323 H1N1 cases so far, with 45 new cases announced, according to the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC). Patients under 20 years old account for 48.5 percent of the total number of swine flu cases in the country.

By press time, 1,259 cases reportedly recovered while 68 are still receiving treatment in hospitals.

Out of the 45 new cases, 29 are school students from Cairo’s Saint Fatima, Cairo International, Al-Sadat and Amr Ibn El-Aas schools as well as schools in Helwan, Giza and Qaliubiya.

In addition, three cases appeared among college students at Suez Canal University, Cairo University and Alexandria University.

The 13 remaining cases include eight Egyptians, four Russians and a French tourist who recently arrived to Egypt.
