CAIRO: The People s Assembly (PA) approved offering a special raise to all workers in the education sector who will not benefit from the new teacher s law, similar in amount to the raise given to teachers, MP Farid Ismail told Daily News Egypt.
He said that it is fair enough to give workers in the education sector the same benefits that teachers will be given when the new law is applied.
The PA had already agreed to that but the government did not implement the directives of the PA, Ismail said.
Ismail said that applying the new teacher s law has been riddled with problems. “The Ministry of Finance is a failed ministry, he said, which only released LE 110 million, although they had previously announced that the budget for the first phase of the new law is expected to be around LE 1.5 billion.
The law, which was introduced by the Ministry of Administrative Development, was opposed by most PA members because although the salary increase might appear large, in some cases it would not exceed LE 100.
The law was expected to be implemented starting last month, but until now teachers have not received the raise.
Minister of Education Youssry Al Gamal told the press that the raise last July s teachers’ law outlined will be released next week, adding that the raise will be given in a separate check.
By next year, there will be about 60,000 teachers working under the authority of the Ministry of Education.
