CAIRO: Egypt said Monday it was extremely disturbed by a video made by members of an extreme-right Danish party, saying it showed a clear ignorance of Islam.
In a statement issued by the foreign ministry, Egypt expressed its extreme disturbance with the behavior of certain young members of the [Danish party].
This behavior signals clear ignorance of the Islamic religion. It comes from arrogance which emanates from a lack of a sense of responsibility, it said. Last month, Denmark s national TV2 channel broadcast excerpts from a video showing young adherents of the Danish People s Party mocking the Islamic prophet during a summer party, with some portraying the Prophet Mohammed dressed in a turban and wearing a belt with explosives as others look on in laughter. The Egyptian government warned the video could lead to violent reactions. These shameful actions will only provoke the feelings of Muslims and push them to uncalculated reactions, which will lead some to allege that Muslims are violent, the ministry said. Egypt was currently undergoing intense negotiations with Denmark over the issue, it added.
